Korongee

An internationally acclaimed dementia village reframing aged care as passive, dignified architecture.

In a landmark collaboration with Thomson Adsett, Cykel Architecture played an integral role from inception to completion in delivering the internationally acclaimed Korongee Dementia Village. Moving entirely away from the traditional, institutional models of aged care, the design framework shifts the focus from managing a disease to actively cultivating a salutogenic environment—an architecture explicitly engineered to promote holistic health, protect human dignity, and preserve personal autonomy.

By recreating the familiar fabric of a classic Tasmanian suburb, Korongee stands as a visionary micro-township where the built form serves as passive medicine, encouraging residents to live independent, self-directed lives filled with purpose.
